Chief Fugman, joining remotely, told the council that the department will continue to hold individuals on criminal federal warrants but does not act on administrative or civil immigration warrants and does not hold people on those warrants.
Alderman Doherty and others said they supported the resolution as a way for the council to publicly back departmental policy and to protect the chief from unilateral criticism. The motion (moved by Vukovich, seconded by Bailey) carried unanimously.
