Brookville Road sidewalk permit conditionally approved and $7,000 traffic study authorized for local streets

The Village Council heard a manager’s report July 17 that included major capital-project updates and a motion to commission a focused traffic study.
The manager said the state highway administration’s district engineer issued a conditional permit for the Brookville Road sidewalk project; the approved plan generally widens sidewalks to five feet where feasible, with a small number of narrower sections to accommodate fences and retaining walls. The village will prepare and post an RFP and anticipates posting for at least 30 days; contractor selection and scheduling will follow. The manager said stormwater-related conditions were included and that a study may be needed to evaluate impacts where sidewalks are widened.
On traffic calming, the manager proposed a one-week traffic study and detailed design recommendations for curb/bump-out measures on Shepherd and Cummings. The engineer’s proposal carries a fee of roughly $7,000; the council moved, seconded and recorded ayes on the motion to proceed. Council members stressed that multiple prior studies exist and asked that the study provide clear answers about parking impacts and effectiveness of curb extensions in streets with many speed humps.
The manager said plans and permit documents will be posted on the new village website’s construction-projects tab for public review once final plans are available. No final construction contract award was recorded at the meeting.
