Development services reports growth, seeks code change to allow taller single-exit buildings and plans software implementation

Greg said about 86 lots are moving through development this season. He described a proposed amendment that would allow buildings up to six stories with a single exit where current state code imposes a more restrictive limit; he said the state review of the change is taking longer than expected, so the municipality plans to submit the amendment to the assembly and include a disclaimer in local code noting that a local section cannot be less restrictive than state requirements.
Greg also reported that the department has contracted both SmartGov and Bluebeam as software vendors, that a project kickoff will occur soon, and that the goal is to have the permitting software fully implemented over the coming year. Staff did not announce a formal vote or ordinance introduction during the meeting.
The report also noted staff are identifying parcels for potential subdivision and evaluating required utilities and drainage for those sites.
