Pinellas County panel approves plan for new Seminole fire station

Pinellas County's Board of Adjustment and Appeals on Aug. 6 approved a Type 2 use request to replace the existing Pinellas Suncoast Fire Station No. 28 with a new two-story, 9,874-square-foot fire station at 13501 94th Avenue North in unincorporated Seminole.
Planning staff told the board the property has long been used as Fire Station No. 28 and that the existing building, built in the early 1970s, is functionally obsolete. Staff said the proposed replacement would include three equipment bays, associated parking, and would meet required setbacks, stormwater retention and parking requirements. "Staff recommends conditional approval," the presenter said.
Ben Buencomino of CPH Engineers, the civil site consultant for the project, and Ken Grimes, fire chief of Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue, appeared for the applicant and described the need to modernize facilities. No public opponents spoke. The board member identified as Mr. Baumstein moved to approve the Type 2 use in accordance with the staff's findings of fact; Mr. Bello seconded. The motion carried 6-0.
The approval was conditional on standard permits, site plans and applicable fees. The board did not identify further conditions in the hearing record. Next procedural steps are permitting and site-plan review under county requirements.
The board moved on to other cases after the vote.
