County staff: partial federal shutdown creates uncertainty but appropriations package preserves key programs

Don Gilchrist told the Legislative Program Committee that six of 12 appropriations bills have become law while the remaining package — including transportation, housing and Labor-HHS funding — is stalled pending final House-Senate agreement; the package preserves several county priorities and includes a $23 billion boost for FEMA’s disaster relief fund, Gilchrist said.

Don Gilchrist, the county’s federal affairs lead, told the Legislative Program Committee on Feb. 2 that the federal government was partially shut down over the prior weekend but that Congress had made substantial progress on appropriations.
