Jackson council finds U.S. Forest Service Nelson Drive parcel eligible for annexation

During public comment, neighbors asked for future conversations about utility upgrades and traffic calming; some residents opposed annexation, arguing federal wildland should not be annexed to facilitate development and urging conditions on lighting and protections for adjacent wildland. Other speakers supported annexation as a way to secure services and protect the neighborhood.
Councilor Spirry moved to find that the annexation complies with the statutory findings and to direct staff to proceed with the requested annexation; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
What this means: staff will proceed with the procedural work required to prepare an annexation ordinance based on the council’s statutory findings; future action will convert the parcel into town jurisdiction and require any implementing ordinances and infrastructure planning.
