Plan commission amends TurfMDs conditional use permit after applicant drops proposed salt bin

The Village of Weston Plan Commission voted Jan. 12 to amend TurfMDs’ conditional use permit for 5605 Mesker Street after the applicant decided not to install the previously proposed salt storage bin.
Planning staff explained that the original CUP, approved in September 2025, included conditions tied to the salt bin to protect a nearby well. Because TurfMDs no longer intends to install the bin, an amendment to the recorded CUP was required under the zoning code to reflect the revised site plan. "If they're not going to do the salt storage shed, then we need to amend the conditional use permit because otherwise they would not be able to continue operation in two years," staff said.
Public commenter Jim Pinsonault said he supported the business but criticized staff and public‑portal (Evolve) transparency and asked whether the amendment had been publicly filed. Staff confirmed the applicant paid the fee and staff had created an amendment stage in Evolve on Dec. 19; the amendment was under review.
Commissioner Gert moved to approve the amended CUP per the draft conditions; the commission approved an amendment to the motion to reference conditions 1–7 in the draft and then carried the amended motion. The vote to adopt the amended CUP was unanimous.
The commission’s action preserves TurfMDs’ ability to operate under an updated, recorded CUP that removes the salt bin requirements while keeping other environmental and operational conditions in force.
