The Black Hawk County Board approved a resolution Feb. 10 adopting a county digital accessibility statement committing the county to WCAG 2.2 AA standards and to ongoing accessibility efforts.
Staff said the statement was provided by AccessiBlue and reviewed by the county attorney. The presenter said the county will create a dedicated accessibility email address monitored by multiple team members with Laurie Wormers serving as primary reviewer; staff will add the statement to the county website immediately and work with other county jurisdictions to post or link to the county statement.
"The accessibility statement has been provided by AccessiBlue and reviewed by Mike Trainan, our county attorney," the presenter said, and noted the county had begun automated website scanning and scheduled staff trainings. Staff also noted a DOJ ruling taking effect in April 2026 that frames accessibility obligations.
The board asked a few clarifying questions and approved the resolution by roll-call vote. Staff said they will continue biweekly meetings with the accessibility vendor, run automated scans and schedule at least two trainings for content creators in coming months.
