Multiple residents told the board the rec center would provide year‑round recreational, wellness and social opportunities for youth and seniors and help economic development by retaining local spending. Christine Zahnach, a resident, told the board the rec center “represents a chance to give the kids opportunities here to stay at home, support seniors with wellness programs, and create safe and healthy activities.”
Administrator Amity said the board had previously agreed on a phase‑1 plan with two basketball courts, a multi‑use space, offices, storage and concession capability and cautioned that expanding scope (for example, to add an indoor pool or additional courts) would raise costs and jeopardize feasibility. Supervisors asked for a phased master plan, with cost estimates for near‑term phases and optional future additions, to be included in procurement materials so voters and staff can track realistic next steps.
