The full story

Mount Pleasant city staff presented a draft sidewalk policy that would create a citywide inspection and repair program covering roughly 9.3 miles of public sidewalks. The presenter said the policy is intended to identify priority repairs and reduce liability, arguing, "it's not a matter of if we get sued for bad sidewalks, it's when we get sued." The program would require an initial inspection within six months of policy adoption and annual follow-ups, using an online GIS-based form (Sunrise) or paper records.
