Council tightens fire‑access rules and creates county fire appeals board

The council adopted amendments to the county fire code requiring two improved fire access roads where dwelling units exceed the threshold and removed the sprinkler exception for that requirement; it also created a three‑member Cache County Fire Department Board of Appeals to handle fire‑code enforcement appeals.

The council considered amendments to the county’s adoption of portions of the International Fire Code (Appendix D) to address increased subdivision density in unincorporated areas. Fire staff explained that subdivisions are now being proposed with larger numbers of homes on a single access and that, absent water supply/hydrant infrastructure in unincorporated areas, two separate improved fire‑access roads significantly reduce evacuation and response risk.
