Commission approves engineering work for multiple county roads and next-step bidding

The Ware County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 9 to move forward with engineering on multiple county roads and to proceed with bidding on select priority segments. Commissioners agreed to start engineering for Bennett Road, Solomon Street and Gooding Bay Road and to seek bids for Solomon Street and Gooding Bay Road now, with the possibility of adding Wilcox Road for paving if budgeted amounts allow.
A commissioner moved that the county "approve to move forward with engineering for folks Bennett Road, Solomon Street, Wilcox Road, Gooding Bay Road as described in the agenda, as well as continue with the bidding process for folks being at Solomon Street and Gooding Bay Road," with the proviso that Wilcox Road would be added if budget permits. The motion was seconded and approved by roll-call voice.
Staff explained the approach is to have engineering completed so bids can be requested; boards will review bid results and add projects if costs allow. The commission recorded aye votes from members on the motion and directed staff to proceed with engineering and bidding as described.
