The Bloomington Common Council voted unanimously on Oct. 16 to adopt Appropriation Ordinance 2024-08, providing $28,050 to fund the newly authorized deputy clerk position for the remainder of the year.
Justin (City Controller) and Clerk Bolden presented the ordinance and said it covers the remaining pays of the year for a position authorized earlier in the salary ordinance amendment and includes minimal supplies such as a laptop and peripherals. Controller Justin stated the full-year salary for the position is $74,466; the appropriation requested $28,050 to cover the remainder of the current year’s payroll and start-up costs.
Council members asked about the hiring timeline; Clerk Bolden said the position has been posted and she hopes to hire in a few weeks but will take time to select the right candidate. The appropriation was adopted after roll call; the clerk recorded seven ‘‘yes’’ votes and the ordinance passed 7-0.
Why it matters: The funded deputy clerk position is intended to support communications and outreach in the clerk’s office and improve processes for boards and commissions.
Next step: The position will be recruited and filled according to the clerk’s hiring timeline.
