TxDOT updates Beaumont on multiple widening, overpass and frontage‑road projects

Texas Department of Transportation staff gave the Beaumont City Council a status report on major highway and frontage‑road projects affecting Jefferson County.
Richard Bradley, assistant area engineer for the Beaumont District, said the US‑69 widening in front of Parkdale Mall has final asphalt mostly complete and crews expect to finish striping within two to three weeks. Bradley described multiple active projects including the Eastex frontage‑road reconstruction (contract delays for fabricated materials, breaking ground before year end), the Cardinal Drive connector work that will erect columns for a future frontage‑road bridge and a planned shutdown of a key U‑turn near Pods/Tinseltown for about a year to allow main‑lane demolition and reconstruction.
Bradley also outlined recently completed work at Smith Road (new overpass, underpass finishing) and an upcoming Boyd Road overpass. He reported FM 365 resurfacing work is nearly finished, and crews set a temporary bridge for the SH‑124 crossing of Taylor’s Bayou with about a year remaining on that job. For upcoming fiscal years, Bradley described plans to widen stretches of US‑90, add signals at Keith and Todd roads, resurface long sections and add paved shoulders and positive barrier in places deemed crash hotspots.
Council members asked about schedule impacts and localized drainage and pavement problems; Bradley answered that some contract delays were built into schedules to allow material fabrication and that his office would investigate specific feeder‑road pavement issues raised by council.
What’s next: Bradley said several projects are expected to reach final closeout before the end of the year and others will begin construction in fiscal years 2025–2027 as materials and letting schedules allow.
