Olson asked the board to allocate $40,000 of restricted transient occupancy tax (TOT) revenue to a "Peach County VA 250 committee" for historical plaques commemorating the U.S. 250th anniversary and $1,000 of restricted TOT as a local match for a Shenandoah National Park gateway map project. He also requested $66,684 from the general fund balance to rent a foam spraying machine for a six‑month landfill trial (DEQ approved) intended as alternative daily cover, and $68,100 from the CIP fund to purchase a property at 215 West Page Street for use as a parking lot.
Olson reported other items: $64,482 in state funds for a new commonwealth's attorney position with an additional $18,428 requested from the general fund to cover remaining salary/benefit costs; $2,500 in sheriff’s office state funds (bridal grant) for training and related supplies; and $72,352 in state grant funds for local schools’ computer science education to be appropriated to the school operating fund. Staff recommended funding the requests with $41,000 of restricted TOT, $85,112 of general fund balance, $68,100 of the county CIP fund balance, and $139,334 of state funds. Olson said the net effect would increase the general fund budget by $152,094.
A motion to approve the package passed on roll call. One board member recorded an abstention due to a potential conflict of interest on a listed item; the rest voted in favor. The consent agenda (October financial reports, payroll and a $50 coyote claim) was also approved earlier in the meeting.
