A representative for a town within Wise County described steps required if the town council seeks to surrender its charter and transfer assets and indebtedness to the county. The presenter explained that, should the town council adopt an ordinance accepting an agreement, the county board would then hold a public hearing and — if both parties concur — the matter could proceed to the circuit court under Code of Virginia §15.2‑375, with a possible election in November and an effective date of Jan. 1, 2027.
