Board votes to split auditor and treasurer roles and authorizes appointment process
Summary
The county board voted to revert the merged auditor–treasurer position and approved a resolution to appoint the county treasurer, directing staff to use statutory language for notice of intent and limiting the immediate appointment to the treasurer office.
Sherburne County commissioners on Feb. 17 approved reversing the optional merger of the county auditor and treasurer offices and passed a companion resolution to appoint the county treasurer.
Staff told the board the auditor–treasurer positions were merged in 1990 and recommended reverting to separate offices. The resolution (021726-ADD-3270) to separate the positions passed after discussion and a statement for the record that the positions originally were separate prior to the 1990 merger.
The board then approved resolution 021726-ADD-3269 regarding appointment of the county officer of treasurer, with amended language to reflect statutory notice of intent not to run (rather than a retirement notice). A commissioner moved to limit the appointment consideration to the treasurer position only; the motion passed 5–0. Staff said they will finalize statutory language for publication deadlines and return final documents for board confirmation.
