Committee accepts bill request to remove handgun exception for school grounds

Representative Foy asked the Committee on Federal and State Affairs to accept a bill request (RS 3,176) described as "an act removing a current exception to the criminal use of weapons statute that allows any individual over the age of 21 or with a provisional license to possess a concealed handgun in or on school property or grounds or any regularly scheduled school sponsor activity or event." The chair asked for questions and, when none were raised, stated "without objection, bill accepted." No additional debate or testimony occurred at the meeting on the request, and the committee moved on to scheduled hearings.
