Pine County commissioners approved a package of facilities and personnel committee recommendations that reorganize office locations and repurpose positions, and that authorize a set of job-grade changes and recruitments across departments.
The facilities report recommended repurposing positions so an administrative assistant can staff the front desk and moving certain offices from the Silver Building to give the sheriff—s office expanded presence. The board discussed the need for minor construction (temporary walls) in the Silver Building and confirmed highway staff had no objection to the sheriff's office using the space.
Separately, the personnel committee requested authorization to recruit for a higher-head deputy sheriff position to address anticipated summer family medical leave absences and upcoming retirements. The committee also recommended multiple job-grade adjustments for building maintenance, highway mechanic, environmental services and other positions; staff said some changes will slightly increase department budgets but managers expect to work within existing budget confines.
The board moved and approved the consolidated personnel and facilities items by roll call. Staff noted several resignations (including highway maintenance worker Jeff Scalicki effective Feb. 13) and said backfill decisions will be made later during the budget process where appropriate.
