Board adopts Pine County Hazard Mitigation Plan after FEMA acceptance

Pine County commissioners adopted the county Hazard Mitigation Plan on Wednesday, approving Resolution 2026-05 after staff said FEMA accepted the plan in January.
Denise Anderson, identified as representing the sheriff's office, told the board the plan was the product of about 2.5 years of work with University of Minnesota spatial staff and outside consultants and included multiple public-input meetings. She said cities, townships and partner jurisdictions were invited and contributed comments during the review process; FEMA accepted the plan in January.
Commissioners asked how long the plan remains in effect; Denise Anderson said the plan is valid for five years. Staff clarified that the emergency operations plan is a separate document and is expected to come to the board at a later meeting.
The board moved, seconded and approved the hazard mitigation resolution by roll call.
