Summary
Citing landowners’ difficulty completing the online comment forms, commissioners approved sending a letter to the Minnesota DNR requesting a 30‑day extension of the public comment period for the Public Water Inventory study and to copy local legislators.
Clay County commissioners voted to send a letter to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources requesting a 30‑day extension to the public comment period for the agency’s Public Water Inventory study after residents reported trouble submitting comments.
Erin and Darren briefed the board: residents told staff they experienced difficulty filling out the DNR’s comment forms and the current 60‑day period was set to close later that week. Commissioner Bair said several landowners asked for more time, noting Clay County was among the first counties to hold public hearings under the DNR process. "So that's why I asked for this letter and I support this letter," Bair said.
Commissioner Ebinger asked whether other counties had been asked to join the request; staff said outreach had not yet occurred but AMC’s environment policy analyst had contacted Clay County and generally supported airing reported user‑experience problems to the DNR. Commissioners agreed to copy local legislators (Sen. Kupek and Rep. Joy were named, plus others) on the letter. The motion to send the extension request passed on a voice vote.
