Summit County’s Public Safety committee approved a resolution authorizing the prosecutor or designee to use the State of Ohio’s County Financial Information System to accept intercounty transfers of surplus funds for the Prosecutor’s Child Support Enforcement Agency (CSEA) for a two‑year period, provided that funds released in any year do not exceed funds accepted that year.
Jennifer Taltz, director of CSEA, said the legislation is required by the state and noted that, historically, the agency has not accepted or distributed funds but that it hopes to do so in the future. She described the intent of transfers: some counties cannot utilize certain training allocations (for example, travel to Columbus) and have chosen to reallocate those funds; Summit receives an annual training allocation that could be shared or used for regional training opportunities.
Council member Miss Ford asked for an example of circumstances in which the county would give money to other counties. Taltz responded that counties with restrictions or travel barriers sometimes redistribute training allocations to make better use of those funds.
