County committee sends $2,000 youth program grant for second reading

Sasha Sales described Brilliant Misfits as a 501(c)(3) that provides mentorship, a youth football program and a planned film and media lab directed at children roughly 8 to 18 years old. "Brilliant Misfits is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We're dedicated to empowering youth from Cleveland's inner city and surrounding communities," Sales said. Co-founder Brian Howard added the group runs a youth football program and has mentors and coaches supporting participants.
In response to committee questions, presenters said the $2,000 would address immediate needs such as helmets, shoulder pads and assistance with team fees, while the broader program budget to sustain the film lab and football operations was described as "close to around like 60-something thousand dollars." Presenters said the football program currently fields roughly 52—53 signed players and that the organization has served more than 100 youth to date.
After discussion, the committee voted to move Resolution 20250192 to the full council for second reading; the award will be considered further at that meeting.
