County staff warns two developmental-disability programs face shortfall; officials to seek state support

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio — County staff told the Lawrence County Commission on Nov. 18 that two programs serving residents with developmental disabilities are at risk because current funding will not sustain them.
At the meeting, a staff member identified as Julie said the county is working with school districts and the Early Intervention (EI) program and with state officials to try to preserve services. “These are the 2 programs right now that... aren't gonna make it without additional funding,” Julie said, adding that county staff will continue advocating with state representatives and exploring transition plans.
Commissioners and staff discussed pursuing assistance from state representation and coordinating with school districts to maintain services for students who rely on county supports. Julie and other staff emphasized the broader state-level funding problem affecting multiple counties and the need for a review of the funding mechanism.
