Middle school students present peer mediation program to the board

Students from the middle school presented their peer mediation program to the board during the meeting's spotlight segment, explaining how trained student mediators help peers resolve conflicts, mentor younger students and lead school tours and lessons.
Bridget, a student presenter, described the program: "Peer mediation is a process where trained students like us ... we will have them in our room with a counselor, and we try to solve a disagreement," explaining the skills learned include empathy, listening and communication. Doctor Mangana and Miss Docherty highlighted counseling staff's role in running the multi‑year training and noted the district has supported peer leadership for over 15 years and trained more than 300 middle‑school students.
A five‑minute video intended to illustrate the program was not played during the meeting because of a technical issue; administration said they would distribute the video after the meeting. The board and superintendent praised the students for leadership and the program's contribution to school climate.
