Magna adopts MSD privacy program to meet state transparency law

To meet House Bill 44 reporting requirements, the council approved an ordinance adopting the MSD privacy program that names the MSD chief administrative officer and the recorder as records officer and enables the city to report how resident data are collected and used.

The Magna City Council voted to adopt Ordinance 2025-O-24 to implement the Magna Service District (MSD) privacy program required under House Bill 44. City manager David Birkey told the council that state law requires municipalities to publish policies explaining what personal data are collected, where they are stored and how they are used.
