The Senate passed Substitute Senate Bill 6,034 to statutorily establish the governor's Office on Indian Affairs at the agency level. Sponsor Senator Kaufman said the office has existed for about 40 years but "has just been out there floating" and the bill will provide foundation, security and clearer government-to-government recognition for tribes.
