Kane County approves reclassification to create assistant director for housing and planning programs

Kane County’s public health committee approved a personnel reclassification on Feb. 18 to convert a housing-manager position into an assistant director of planning and information management within the health department.
Executive Director Michael said the change follows the transfer of three major housing programs and five staff from the former Office of Community Reinvestment. The reclassification is intended to centralize rental-assistance, continuum-of-care coordination for shelters and planning initiatives under one supervisor and to provide additional staffing: one manager and two specialists from the rental-assistance program.
Michael told the committee that no budget adjustment is required because the Office of Community Reinvestment had already budgeted those positions at a higher salary grade. The board's personnel policy requires department heads to seek permission from the board for reclassifications.
The committee approved the change by roll-call vote. Staff said the reclassification will allow the department to post the position and proceed with hiring and operational changes.
Why it matters: Consolidating housing programs under the health department aims to improve coordination of rental assistance and homeless services and provide clearer supervisory structure. Officials said the move is budget-neutral because the positions were already funded at a higher grade in the transferring office.
