Crescent City — The council approved acceptance of a CareStar grant managed by Sutter Coast and amended the city budget to acquire and upfit a multiuse rapid-response vehicle for police operations.
Chief Weir described a $110,000 grant-funded package to purchase and equip a Ford Transit-style van with an interior workstation for mobile forensics and dispatch radios, awning, portable lighting and evidence-processing equipment. The vehicle is intended for multiuse: extended incident command posts (for example, long standoffs), mobile forensics to process devices on-scene and support during planned events.
The chief said the vehicle would also assist neighboring jurisdictions by providing redundancy for communications and forensics support. He told the council the department had sourced vehicles and upfitting options and that the grant requires expenditures before July 1; staff will manage procurement and fleet maintenance as part of regular operations.
Council approved a budget amendment and authorized the city manager and police chief to sign the associated MOU with Sutter Coast Hospital (CareStar) for the grant funds.
