The Ellensburg City Council on Feb. 17 approved the city’s 2026 community development long-range planning work program.
Planning Manager Stacy Henderson presented the program, noting the year’s central task is the periodic comprehensive-plan update and that staff will propose two rounds of code updates — a smaller set in June (state-required and cleanups) and more comprehensive amendments in December tied to the updated comprehensive plan. Staff also identified a staff-initiated effort to revise manufactured-home-park regulations (current code requires a minimum three-acre park, which mismatches existing sites), and a plan to codify an official zoning-map adoption and amendment process.
Community Development Director Dan Carlson said an earlier citizen request related to transferable open-space rights (a private-citizen request) remains on the list for tracking. Councilmembers asked technical questions about mapping consistency and whether GIS-based gap analysis would be used to align zoning with the future land use map.
Councilmember Ray moved to approve the 2026 work program and the council unanimously voted to adopt it.
