Summary
The City of Bruce Hill voted Feb. 18 to award the historic Broussard drainage project A1 to Reliant Industrial Solutions LLC for $284,222.50; a separate $125,000 budget amendment for District 2 was tabled after Councilman David Bona requested site visits.
The City of Bruce Hill Council on Feb. 18 approved awarding a contract for the historic Broussard drainage project A1 to Reliant Industrial Solutions LLC and later tabled a related $125,000 budget amendment for a District 2 drainage project.
Walter Como of Como Engineering told the council the A1 project covers approximately 1,000 linear feet, includes two road crossings and nine driveways (three concrete, six limestone), and focuses on properly sizing and replacing culverts and clearing the roadside ditch. Como said bids for the project were opened on Feb. 4, 2026: “We actually received 5 bids, but 1 of them had to be rejected based on public bid law. The bidder did not properly put their license number on the front of the envelope, which is required.” He said the lowest responsive bidder was Reliant Industrial Solutions LLC at $284,222.50 — about $40,700 below the engineer’s $325,000 estimate — and recommended the council award the contract to Reliant in accordance with state bid law.
There were no public comments on the item. The council recorded district-by-district responses and the presiding official announced the motion to award the contract was approved.
Later in the meeting the council considered a separate resolution to amend the February 2026 operating budget to increase authorized expenditures by $125,000 for a District 2 drainage project. Councilman David Bona, who requested the item be placed on the agenda, asked colleagues to contact him for site visits to review conditions and discuss proposals before moving forward. Bona said, “This part of town needs all the help it can get,” and moved to table the item until the next meeting. The motion to table was seconded and carried on recorded district votes.
Meeting business concluded with a reminder from the presiding official that awarding the A1 contract would allow the contractor to begin work before the March meeting. The council also announced a community coffee event in Broussard scheduled for Feb. 20 at Chops. The meeting was then adjourned.
