Clear Creek commissioners interview Natalie Strom for tourism board seat

Natalie Strom interviewed Dec. 16 before the Clear Creek County Board of County Commissioners for appointment to the county tourism bureau board of directors.
Strom said she has lived in Clear Creek County since 2013 and described work in website design for the town of Georgetown, marketing and events for Mountain Prime and the Ology Emporium, and earlier nonprofit work in arts and behavioral health advocacy. She told commissioners she favors targeted, cooperative marketing that encourages visitors who already come to spend money locally, rather than simply increasing visitor counts.
Commissioners questioned Strom about outreach to Georgetown after that town opted out of a county lodging tax and asked how she would balance tourism promotion with protecting residents’ quality of life. Strom said she had completed her application before learning details about Georgetown’s lodging-tax decision and acknowledged the tourism bureau would not market Georgetown while it operates its own lodging-tax program. She said she would listen to residents and businesses and pursue cross-promotion strategies, such as coordinated events and social-media campaigns, to boost local spending.
The board told Strom it will reflect individually and consult staff, and said members expect to make a decision within the next two meetings or to provide an explanation if they choose not to appoint her.
