Ocoee commission approves contingency payout for ZIP-code lobbying trip to Washington

The Ocoee City Commission voted Feb. 17 to authorize a delegation to travel to Washington, D.C., to lobby for federal action to unify ZIP codes affecting Ocoee residents.
City staff said the coalition’s previous trips helped advance attention for a bill to resolve multiple ZIP codes in the city. Staff requested authorization for three officials to return to D.C. for a two-day lobbying effort and asked the commission to allow use of contingency funds (staff said roughly $107,000 was available) to pay travel expenses. Commissioner Kennedy moved to approve the request; Commissioner Foerster seconded and the commission voted in favor.
Staff said the earlier delegation’s outreach had moved the measure out of committee and that Senator Rand Paul had indicated support after prior reluctance. The staff presentation named potential dates for lobbying in March and described an intention to return with community examples and constituent testimony to strengthen the bill’s case.
The action at the meeting authorizes travel and use of contingency funds; staff will provide expense details and schedule follow-up reporting to the commission. The vote was recorded as an affirmative commission action at the Feb. 17 meeting.
