Sheldon ISD highlights CTE expansion, work-based learning and student internships

At the board meeting's reports segment, Benita Taylor, the district's CTE director (introduced by staff), summarized career and technical education offerings and outcomes, and Shontay Hardy detailed work-based learning partnerships and student internships.
"CTE prepares students for high-skill, high-wage jobs," Taylor said, and she listed program metrics the district reported for 2024'25: 24 programs of study, 11 technical dual-credit programs, 398 industry-based certifications earned during the year and service to over 3,000 students.
Hardy described expansion of work-based learning and partnerships with external employers and agencies, including increased internship opportunities, a new dual-credit business class launching spring 2026 and program additions such as plumbing and pipe-fitting to meet local labor demand. She also noted paid summer internship opportunities through East Harris County for juniors and program-related bridge camps planned for the summer.
Student ambassadors and seniors — including Madison Pham (Genesis Works/career prep), Michael Sacedo (Kings Nursing and Training/NET program) and Araceli Orozco (legal studies pathway) — gave short testimonials about internships, dual-credit pathways and college and career readiness experiences that they said helped prepare them for postsecondary steps.
The board did not take action on CTE items during the meeting; presenters encouraged community members and families to review program details and district postings.
