Ross Local students showcase biomed program and ensemble at board meeting

At the Feb. 19 Ross Local School District board meeting, students presented parts of the district’s biomed sequence and a school ensemble performed for the board and community.

High school principal Brian Martin introduced teacher Mister Strang and student presenters Victoria Sudeka and Maya Johnson, who described a forensic case study used to teach evidence evaluation and a human-body physiology unit that includes hands-on experiments and microscope work. Student presenters said the classes helped some participants choose health-care career paths.

"So this is the Ross Grama Ensemble Sextet, which features Braden Mead, Bridal Butterfield, Anthony Kravie, Ethan Kimball, Brian Pence, and Garrett Burton," a presenter said before the group performed its selection, "March Romaine." A presenter later told the board, "All of our ensembles this year received the top rating, which is called superior." The HOSA advisers reported record participation with more than 70 regional competitors and 56 state qualifiers.

Administrators said the district is expanding career-and-technical course offerings (medical interventions and a capstone course) and that the biomed program helps retain students and prepares them for local workforce needs. The board thanked students and staff for the presentations.

The presentations preceded the treasurer’s forecast and other agenda business for the evening.
