Summary
A longtime transportation professional urged a walking audit in Old Town to identify pedestrian barriers; staff acknowledged previous audits and said they would consider additional walking audits and follow up with the commission.
During public comment at the Feb. 19 Transportation Commission meeting, resident Carl Whaley (7879 East Coronado Road) described his experience in transportation planning and urged the commission to conduct a walking audit in Scottsdale's Old Town to identify pedestrian barriers. Whaley offered to lead such an audit and said walkability is essential to Old Town's economic life.
Chair Wilcoxon thanked Whaley and asked staff whether the commission had the ability to pursue a walking audit. Staff said the city completed walking audits as part of a recent safety-plan evaluation and that they could look into additional walking audits and report back. The commission asked staff to follow up and to consider including commissioners and interested merchants in any future audit.
No formal action was taken; staff accepted the suggestion and will advise the commission on next steps.
