Board sets public hearing dates for water applications, CIP ranking, solid-waste code changes and proposed diesel excise tax

The board set Dec. 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Tonopah for Item 14 (temporary water applications under Nevada Revised Statute 533.363) and Item 15 (project-priority ranking list for transportation improvements). The board also set Nov. 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Pahrump for Item 16 (a proposed amendment to Nye County Code Title 8 concerning solid-waste management, definitions and waiver procedures) and Item 17 (Nye County Bill 2024-11, proposing a 5¢ per-gallon excise tax on diesel fuel).
Staff explained the statutory need to publish and hold hearings before the board may make determinations on these items; several members of the public urged that the board hear residents' views on the proposed diesel tax and the solid-waste changes before making decisions. The board approved the hearing dates and locations by majority vote and emphasized that setting a hearing does not constitute approval of the underlying proposals.
