Sutter County board issues proclamations, remembers fallen officer in public comment

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors on April 10 issued multiple proclamations and heard public comment remembering a fallen officer.
The board presented a proclamation recognizing April 2025 as the Week of the Young Child; Michelle Blake of the Sutter County Children and Families Commission accepted and thanked the board for highlighting early childhood investments and noted the commission’s work. The board also proclaimed April 7–13, 2025 as National Public Health Week and invited Sarah Eberhardt Rios of Sutter County Health and Human Services to accept the recognition.
Chair Flores proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month with the theme "It takes a village" and asked Maria Rodriguez of Casa de Esperanza (CASA) to speak; Rodriguez said she appreciated the recognition and the ongoing support for victim services. Rodriguez also accepted a proclamation recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and described Casa de Esperanza’s hotline and survivor support services.
During public comment, Tony Farley spoke about Officer Rodarte and his emotional reaction to the officer’s death: "Officer Rodarte. I miss him," he said. Farley urged stricter penalties for people who harm first responders and described his opposition to certain drugs; his remarks included calling for tougher laws, including capital punishment for those who kill first responders. There was no transcripted formal response from the board.
The board approved the consent calendar by roll call after a motion by Supervisor Ziggermeyer and a second from Supervisor Stevens; recorded votes showed ayes from all five supervisors. Board members used the district reports section to request a plaque and memorial fundraising for Officer Rodarte, to note local memorials and to promote community events: Supervisor Baines invited the public to a cheesesteak shop ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.; the board highlighted the new Yuba Sutter High Wheelers baseball team (first game May 20) and Sutter Buttes Brewery’s involvement.
Announcements included a special public hearing April 29 on hemp cultivation and a budget study session the same evening, and a town hall for Districts 2 and 5 set for April 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Cafe.
The meeting concluded after final motions and a roll call vote to adjourn.
