Plumas County OKs up to $35,000 for sheriff’s office multi-camera security system

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors approved a request from the sheriff’s office to authorize the purchase of a multi-camera system with a total not-to-exceed price of $35,000, funded from criminal justice construction funds.
Sheriff Chad Herrman told the board the system would cover exterior parking areas and interior security-sensitive zones, including the IT room (required for Department of Justice compliance), evidence storage doors and dispatch. “We are looking to put a camera system on our office … it captures our security doors, to our IT room, which is required to be in DOJ compliance, as well as our evidence room doors to make sure that nobody is going in and out of the evidence room without permissions,” Herrman said.
Board members moved the item, and a roll-call vote was taken; the motion carried. The clerk recorded votes in favor and the board acknowledged the funding source as criminal justice construction funds, stating there was no general-fund impact for the purchase.
The board accepted public comment opportunity and proceeded with the roll-call approval. The sheriff’s office will implement the system to enhance facility security and DOJ compliance and return to the board if further action is required.
