Orange County Board Announces Two Workers' Compensation Settlements

County counsel reported to the Orange County Board of Supervisors that the board unanimously approved two proposed workers' compensation settlements during closed session.

The board approved a proposed $185,000 settlement in the matter of Lisa Feddes versus County of Orange, counsel said, noting Feddes is a retired deputy sheriff who alleged industrial injuries to her knees and heart. Counsel also said the board approved a proposed $280,000 settlement in the matter of Joseph Bull versus County of Orange; Bull is a retired deputy sheriff sergeant who alleged cumulative trauma to his heart and spine. In both cases, counsel said the settlements are subject to "the final approval of others" and that copies of finalized agreements will be made available through the Office of CEO Risk Management to anyone who inquires.

"So with respect to SCS 2, the board unanimously approved a proposed $185,000 workers' compensation settlement in the matter of Lisa Feddes versus County of Orange," County counsel told the board. Counsel later said the board "unanimously approved a proposed $280,000 workers' compensation settlement in the matter of Joseph Bull versus the County of Orange." Counsel added that beyond those items "the Board took no other reportable action in closed session today."

The announcements followed routine procedural remarks at the start of the meeting explaining how members of the public may submit comments — by completing a speaker request form and depositing it at the podium, or by emailing response@ocgov.com — and the meeting concluded shortly afterward. The board did not provide a public roll-call vote tally in the open record; counsel described the approvals as unanimous and noted the settlements remain subject to further approvals before they are final.

The meeting adjourned after the closed-session report. "That completes our agenda for today. We stand adjourned," the chairman said.
