Colleton superintendent to present data on adding sixth grade to elementary schools

Superintendent Williams updated the board that district leaders held town hall meetings at each elementary and at Colleton County Middle School to discuss a proposal to add sixth grade at all elementary schools. She said staff collected parent and community feedback via a QR-code survey and posted the presentation and supporting materials online so families could review the proposal before completing the survey.
"I'm going to say the results publicly, and then I'm going to ask you to, you know, make that final decision as to are we gonna move forward with this or or not," Superintendent Williams said, describing the next steps: staff will provide a summary of the collected survey data to board members ahead of the next full meeting so the board can weigh a final decision.
Board members asked for access to the survey questions; Superintendent Williams said staff can provide the survey instrument to board members and that a Q&A document capturing frequently asked items will be prepared. One board member reiterated that the January motion authorizing administration to "explore" K–6 options intended broad exploration of multiple models; Superintendent Williams clarified that the upcoming presentation will focus specifically on the sixth-grade restructuring but that other grade-structure options can be studied if the board directs it.
The administration also described outreach tied to pre-K and kindergarten registration (launched the previous day), the district’s "Choose Colleton" campaign, and planned registration days for Feb. 25 and March 25. No formal vote on grade restructuring occurred at the meeting; the superintendent scheduled a data briefing to allow board members to consider whether to advance the proposal.
