Summary
The Sandpoint Sustainability Committee authorized staff to send a memorandum of understanding to Boise State University to engage a student to perform a greenhouse‑gas inventory; the committee also reported ongoing outreach to the University of Montana, Gonzaga, WSU and Eastern for future collaboration.
The Sandpoint Sustainability Committee voted on Feb. 24 to authorize staff to send a memorandum of understanding to Boise State University to begin a student‑led greenhouse gas inventory for the city. Committee Chair Christine Moon said Boise State has capacity to supervise a student project and that staff will draft an MOU to clarify scope, timelines and travel or expense responsibilities.
Rachel McKinley, the staff liaison, told the committee she had contacted the University of Montana and was waiting for a response from Dr. Saha. McKinley said Boise State’s Kathy Adonjo and her team signaled readiness to assign a student and that Boise State sees the work as a possible start of a longer partnership. McKinley also reported positive responses from Gonzaga University, Washington State University and Eastern Washington University, though those schools said scheduling would make a summer or fall start more feasible.
A committee member moved that Pam De Ket (city council liaison), Rachel McKinley and Chair Moon take the lead on finalizing the Boise State memorandum; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The committee recorded multiple 'Aye' responses; no 'No' votes were recorded in the transcript.
Committee members asked staff to clarify the scope of student work and whether the same MOU used with the University of Montana could be adapted for Boise State. McKinley said the scopes will differ because the assignments are not identical, but that much of the paperwork could be reused. Members also discussed reserving modest travel funds so students could present results to the committee or council in person.
The committee asked staff to draft the MOU and carry it through internal review; members said they would expect a future report on the final scope and schedule before data collection begins.
