Board hears school reports; preschool team and transportation staff recognized

During the communications and reports portion of the Feb. 11 meeting, staff and a parent highlighted school activities, student achievements and community engagement across elementary and secondary campuses.

A parent (Resident, S5) publicly recognized preschool staff Melissa Day, Tara Sample and Caitlin Woodhall, saying the district’s Career Prep Academy preschool has expanded into a two‑class early‑learning program that now serves "around 40 40 to 50 preschoolers." Staff (S3) and the board thanked the preschool team for efforts in inclusion, social‑emotional development and preparing students for kindergarten.

Committee member (S4) recognized transportation staff Stacey Sandoval, Donovan Hale and Deborah Young for covering route adjustments and transporting students across campus boundaries, noting their flexibility in early mornings, midday and afternoon routes.

Elementary updates included student service visits to nursing homes, fundraising for the American Heart Association and registration timelines for preschool (Feb. 23 for current students, followed by in‑district and out‑of‑district windows). High‑school reports covered testing (iLearn, ECA), four‑year planning for grades 9–11, fine arts state qualifiers in band and choir, FFA week and career presentations with employers. Prom ticket sales and ninth‑grade orientation dates were also announced.

These reports were informational; no action was taken. The board was invited to upcoming events, including a musical performance next Thursday with adult tickets priced at $5 and free admission for children.
