Rock Ridge board approves $2.57 million interior remodel for special-education programs; multiple vendor votes follow

Project representatives from Kraus Anderson presented bid results and three alternates. Chelsea Krails, project engineer with Kraus Anderson, said the base bid totaled $1,424,128, alternates for mechanical upgrades and assistive-listening rough-in raised the total construction and soft-cost package to $2,574,112. "So when we get to the project, the project total cost then comes to $2,574,112," Krails told the board, and outlined a construction schedule that would begin Nov. 17 and wrap around March 27, with about five months of interior work.
Board members asked about the district's existing air-handling units and whether replacement should be included as an alternate; staff said current units were at or past typical life expectancy and could be salvaged for parts if replaced. Trustees noted long-term-facilities maintenance funds could be used for like-for-like HVAC replacements.
After the presentation, a motion to approve the project as presented passed unanimously with a second.
