At the start of the Sto-Rox SD legislative meeting the board recognized an expansion of the student-representative role from one to two members. Outgoing student representative Jay Ellerbee formally passed the position to Garrin Sarcone (class of 2028) and Darnell White (class of 2027) and offered departing remarks encouraging them to use their voice.
Darnell White introduced himself as a junior at Sto-Rox High School who studies manufacturing and safety in a pre-apprenticeship classroom and said he accepted the role to make a difference. He told the board he wants to address dress-code compliance, saying, "I feel like the dress code is not really that great," and noted some students do not make use of available uniform options.
Garrin Sarcone, who said he has attended the district since kindergarten and is a tenth-grader, said he is excited to serve and hopes to help change some things for students. Board members thanked both student representatives and encouraged them to keep bringing ideas forward.
The board then moved to its next agenda item. The student introductions and remarks occurred publicly during the meeting’s agenda and were recorded in the minutes.
