Curriculum directors propose NASP archery program and dual-credit adjustments; Keystone testing schedule set

Curriculum director Dr. Dreykowski asked the board to approve initiating the NASP (National Archery in Schools Program) program in the district. He told the board two grants — including a Pennsylvania Game Commission/NASP equipment grant and an ASTON Foundation grant — provided roughly $2,500 per building and that the grants cover equipment and instructor certification for up to 12 instructors.
Dreykowski said the program would begin in grade 4 and be offered as a high-school bench class; if student interest grows the program could expand into an extracurricular club and competitive participation. “We are looking to add archery into grades 4 and then the high school bench class,” he said, adding the grants pay for equipment and certification.
The curriculum director also described a change to the district’s articulation agreement with Lackawanna College: administrators proposed replacing some AP courses with honors-level courses for dual-credit purposes while keeping eight available dual-credit slots to maintain the district’s 30-credit cap under current policy.
On assessments, administrators confirmed Keystone testing dates begin in early December (literature on Dec. 3–4, followed by biology) with makeup days through Dec. 17. Dreykowski clarified the Accelerated Reader (AR) program is optional and may not be used for grades in any subject; reading logs and AR may be used as progress tools and rewards only.
