Oley Valley SD committee weighs facilities software rollout; members debate AI capability vs. practicality

Missus Pfeiffer, reporting for the property and transportation committee, said the district is setting up a property and maintenance software system to centralize work orders, user roles and historical records dating back roughly eight years.
"We met with Mister Weston to look at the software that's planned to be implemented. It should streamline all the property work orders... and quickly have available information for people to see when anything has to come up for either maintenance or repairs or replacements," Missus Pfeiffer said.
Mr. Weston said the tool the district is deploying functions as a searchable repository and can return relevant records (for example, typing "boiler" returns past work orders) and can evaluate depreciation values; he said the system integrates with the calendar and carries no additional cost to the district in its current configuration.
Some members cautioned that a search function alone is not the same as true artificial intelligence. Mrs. Corral urged the board to consider longer-term sustainability and capabilities: "I warn against going into something that is not going to be around in the coming years and something that's more sustainable for the future. We have to consider that AI is really coming in strong," she said.
Board members agreed the current system can serve as a unified repository and that, if the district later purchases AI-enabled tools, having consistent, well-organized records will help enable future integrations. No procurement decision or contract award was finalized during the committee meeting; members described the work as setup and data-entry in progress.
