Superintendent updates board on software migration, staffing changes and expanded security measures

The superintendent reported several district operational items and said additional grant funding has allowed the district to add armed security at primary schools for the remainder of the year.

On technology, the superintendent said the board previously approved funds to migrate away from Skyward (which is being sunsetted) and that administrators and teachers attended a Skyward conference to support that transition. On school leadership, the superintendent said Kelly Ann Monte resigned as Upper Elementary principal and that Missus Nicholas is serving as acting principal while the district begins a replacement process.

The superintendent noted district staff attended a grant workshop hosted by Representative Joe Cooper and Senator Kim Ward and that the district will share applicable opportunities. The superintendent also said Melissa Nelson will deliver threat‑assessment training to the board next month.

On safety, the superintendent said the district continues to pursue school‑resource officer partnerships with Allegheny Township and Washington Township and that some measures discussed in executive session cannot be publicly detailed for safety reasons. “Because we talk about those things in executive session… it’s not wise to be talking in public about where your strengths and vulnerabilities are,” the superintendent said.

Board members asked clarifying questions about scheduling and personnel, and no formal board action was taken at the meeting; the items were presented as operational updates.
