Superintendent reports progress on library remodel, track, summer programs and fundraising

The superintendent reported at the Aug. 18 Pleasant Hill SD 1 board meeting that the district’s summer projects are largely on schedule: the middle/high school library remodel is nearing completion with furniture expected to arrive around Aug. 26, contractors are finishing floor and window work, and the athletic track and turf work are complete.

Staff said contractors performed preliminary wall inspections in the gym to identify surprises and that the district expects a 90% design and cost estimate by October for gym work. The superintendent also reported a $25,000 donation toward district fundraising efforts and described recent capital and facilities work the maintenance staff completed over the summer.

On summer programming, administration said the district’s summer school served a total of 55 students (34 at the elementary school, 14 at the middle school and 7 at the high school), provided two bus routes and daily breakfast and snack services, and hosted an open summer library (in partnership with United Way) that regularly drew roughly 30 children and adults.

Board members asked clarifying questions about track materials and paint choices; staff said a vendor agreement includes a provision to revisit color decisions in five years and that the district would absorb repainting costs if needed. The superintendent praised maintenance and custodial staff for flexibility during multiple projects.

The board did not take formal action on facilities projects at the meeting; staff said follow‑up design estimates and procurement steps will proceed under administration oversight.
