Gresham-Barlow board approves agenda, recesses to executive session for superintendent evaluation

The Gresham-Barlow SD 10J Board of Directors approved the meeting agenda and recessed into an executive session to discuss the superintendent's evaluation during a Jan. 8 special work session, the board's chair said.

The chair moved to approve the agenda "as presented," and stated the motion was "Moved by Chris, second by Sean." The chair then called for a vote; the board responded "Aye," and no opposition was voiced on the record, after which the chair announced the board would recess into an executive session "for the purpose of discussing a superintendent evaluation pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(i)."

The chair read the standard executive-session guidance on the record: executive sessions are closed to the public; representatives of the news media and designated staff may attend but are directed not to report on the deliberations except to state the general subject announced; and "no decision may be made in executive session." After the closed session the board reconvened into the special work session.

At reconvening the chair said the board continues to work through future agenda topics using a spreadsheet and invited anyone with questions "to engage with Holly and me" for follow-up. The chair also reminded attendees that the regular board business meeting would begin at 7 p.m. and then adjourned the special work session.

What happened: the board formally adopted its special work-session agenda, held a closed executive session limited to the superintendent evaluation under state statute, and then returned to the open work session without announcing any decision from the closed session.
